The Sydney Blue Sox finished off the Naperville Giants 2-1 in the deciding game of the League Championship Series played at Silverbacks Ballpark.
They took the series 4-3 and will now head to the World Series.
For his standout play, Sydney first baseman Butch Schmidt was voted the series' Most Valuable Player.
He batted .333, drove in 1 runs and scored 5 to lead his club to victory.
"We could never really figure out how to pitch to Schmidt and that doomed us," said Giants manager . "Hats off to Sydney, though. That was a great series."
The Sydney Blue Sox don't know who they will face in the next round. They will play the winner of the Manchester Bobcats - Las Vegas Hairy Nuts series. Las Vegas leads the series 3 games to 2. The World Series schedule will be announced after the League Championship Series finishes. | | |
