| Veteran Smith Hits Three Dingers Sunday, October 2nd, 2005 Today was a special one for Elmer Smith of the Sydney Blue Sox as he slammed three home runs in the 19-5 win over the Augusta Green Jackets.
"Lately, I've been uppercutting the ball too much," he said to sportswriters after the game. "I would hit it hard, but they just went sky high and stayed in the ballpark. No big long outs for me in this game. I leveled out my swing and connected on the sweet spot. I knew they were gone the minute I hit 'em."
The Sydney right fielder collected 3 hits in 4 at-bats, drove in 7, and scored 4 runs in the contest at Samurai Ballpark.
Elmer Smith hit a two-run home run off Scott Klingenbeck in the 1st, hit a three-run home run off Scott Klingenbeck in the 2nd, struck out in the 3rd, hit a two-run home run off Matt Guerrier in the 5th, walked in the 7th and walked in the 8th.
