Clutch Hitting Delivers Win for Senators | The Washington Senators faced a tough opponent in St. Louis pitcher Mike Sirotka, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Sportsman's Park by a final score of 4-2. Sirotka went 5.2 innings and allowed no runs. Jeff E Gray notched the win in relief. The right-hander allowed no runs on 3 hits in 2.1 innings. His record now sits at 10-6. Jumbo Brown, credited with the save, is now 2 for 5 in save opportunities.
Washington used the timely hitting of Leonys Martin to seize the win. The center fielder stroked a 2-run single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Senators on top, 4-2. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"It's nice to come out on top today," said Martin.
With the win, Washington upped its record to 79-73. | | | | |
