Gabby Hartnett Inducted into Hall Of Fame
Wednesday, January 4th, 2006
On a bright, windy afternoon, Gabby Hartnett, the superb catcher, stood outside the doors to the Awesome Bigley Baseball Association Hall of Fame. He collected his thoughts and tried to contain his emotions before entering the shrine to baseball's greatest players.

Hartnett later disclosed some of his thoughts to reporters at the press conference. "To be numbered among these great players," he said, "some of them my idols growing up... that's almost too much to fit my mind around."

Nevertheless, this outstanding performer stepped through those doors to claim his place among baseball's immortals. His induction into the Hall of Fame, which took place yesterday, surprised nobody. He collected votes from 100.0% of the writers.

Gabby Hartnett was 41 when he retired from baseball. In 2697 career games he compiled a .257 batting average with 2475 hits, 543 home runs, 1681 RBIs and 1374 runs scored.
