| Hall of Fame Inducts First Baseman Wednesday, January 3rd, 1996 Joey Votto, a standout first baseman throughout his Awesome Bigley Baseball Association career, has been inducted into the Hall of Fame in his 1st attempt.
During the induction ceremony, he credited the coaches who taught him to play the game and the teammates who taught him to be a professional.
However, the most important influence, Votto said, was his father. "Pops never gave up on me," he said, "no matter how often I felt like giving up on myself.
In his 2230-game career, Votto hit .289 with 2314 hits, 327 home runs, 1287 runs scored and 1231 RBIs.
He wrapped up his career at the age of 38 and retired, hanging up his cleats in 1994. | | |
